Baltimore Crossing Pedestrian Plaza, Philadelphia

Planters: Step Planters

Installation Information

The five-way intersection has been raising concerns for being a potentially dangerous crossing for pedestrians and cyclists. Baltimore Crossing pedestrian plaza debuted in 2013, with the help of the University City District in Philadelphia, PA, in partnership with the City and the community. Added large bump-outs successfully solved the traffic concerns by reducing the speed of vehicular traffic and shortening the crossing distance for pedestrians by roughly 50%. The newly designed intersection features TerraCast planters as barriers, creating a safe space for pedestrians and cyclists waiting to cross the street. The added lush greenery and terracotta-colored planters beautify and add a nice touch to the streetscape as well as providing functionality. The bonus points for the business improvement district in choosing TerraCast® are the maintenance-free aspect of the TerraCast® planters and the ease of cleaning for the well-maintained community aesthetic.

Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
