Installation Information

The Flatiron NoMad Partnership sought to launch a new sidewalk planter program to enhance the district's public spaces, improve pedestrian safety, and strengthen neighborhood identity. The initiative required a planter solution that not only added greenery but also met the stringent standards of the NYC Department of Transportation (DOT). The Partnership needed a durable, low-maintenance product that could withstand the demanding urban environment while also providing a unique opportunity for custom branding. 

The Partnership's search for a reliable, pre-approved solution led them to TerraCast Products, a trusted name for products that meet a specified standard for the NYC DOT. The selected product, the 60" Brooklyn Planter, was the ideal choice. This planter style has a proven pedigree, originally custom-designed for the North Flatbush Business Improvement District in Brooklyn, NY, in direct accordance with DOT requirements. 

The key to this project was TerraCast's unique custom graphic capability. Unlike fragile adhesive films or decals prone to peeling and vandalism, our process seamlessly fuses the Partnership's logo directly into the LLDPE resin during production. This innovative method guarantees a permanent, vibrant brand presence that never fades or scrapes off, while the planter's non-porous surface ensures effortless maintenance with just a pressure washer. 

The strategic deployment of these Brooklyn Planters delivered a multi-faceted solution to the Partnership's challenges. Beyond providing essential greenery and shade, the planters' substantial size and robust construction serve as powerful visual barriers. This dual functionality effectively deters illegal parking and creates a safer separation between pedestrians and vehicular traffic. The project resulted in a beautiful, sustainable, and high-performing streetscape that not only revitalized public spaces but also successfully strengthened the Partnership's brand identity. This initiative stands as a prime example of urban design done right, prioritizing unmatched durability, low maintenance, and multifunctional performance for a successful and lasting public works program.
